Prince Harry attended a surprise engagement that’s special to him without Meghan Markle ahead of their Africa tour.

On Wednesday, the Duke of Sussex made a solo appearance at the National Geographic event. The gathering focused on wildlife preservation in Africa, a place close to Prince Harry’s heart, Hello! reported.

Markle’s husband was there to speak about raising awareness for the Okavango River Basin. The river is the largest freshwater wetland in southern Africa and serves as the main source of water for a million people. It’s also home to the world’s largest elephant population and other wildlife including lions and cheetahs.

Prince Harry’s visit to the event wasn’t listed on the court circular. Thus, it was deemed an unofficial engagement.

Prince Harry’s surprise appearance at the event happened ahead of the family’s tour to Africa. It has just been announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor are heading to the continent for their next official royal tour. It will be the Sussexes’ first official tour as a family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be visiting South Africa, Malawi and Angola. They will also make a short visit to Botswana.

“The Duke and Duchess are really looking forward to meeting so many of you on the ground and continuing to raise awareness of the high impact work local communities are doing across the Commonwealth and beyond,” the couple announced on Instagram.

In related news, Prince Harry was reportedly desperate and terrified of losing Markle when they were just dating. The couple kept their romance a secret for six months. When their relationship leaked to the public, Prince William’s younger brother begged Markle to move with him to London.

Prince Harry wanted to keep their relationship a secret for as long as possible, but he didn’t get what he wanted. His exes Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas were not able to cope with the unwanted media attention due to dating a royal. Prince Harry didn’t want Markle to feel the same way, so he wanted her to be with him.

Unlike Chelsy and Cressida, Markle, a former actress, enjoys the limelight. A source said that she “seems well able to deal with the pressure.”
