Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be attending Prince Andrew’s birthday.

On Sunday, Prince Andrew will be celebrating his 60th birthday. The Queen was reportedly planning for a party in honor of her favorite son’s birthday. The monarch also wanted to celebrate his charities. However, due to the scandal plaguing the duke, the Queen opted to have a small dinner instead.

Queen Elizabeth II wanted all the members of the royal family to be there. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex already said that they couldn’t make it.

“A mole [told] me, ‘It’s an open secret they declined the invite but it’s not very nice for the queen as, whatever people say and think, he is [still] her son and she wanted her close family around her,” U.K.-based broadcaster Neil Sean told Fox News.

“The reason given is that they already have commitments on the day but also plan to send a gift/card and a video message to be played at the party.”

Prince Andrew stepped down from his royal roles following his controversial Newsnight interview where he denied Virginia Roberts’ claims that they had sex. The interview only backfired with many believing it was better if he had kept his silence about the issue. According to Emily Fairbairn of The Sun, Prince Andrew’s “unpleasantness” left him isolated. Insiders also blamed the duke’s “signature arrogance.” He was reportedly advised against doing the BBC interview, but he still did it.

“He must have believed he would be charming enough to see off, once and for all, the allegations that he slept with teenager Virginia Roberts — something he strenuously denies,” Fairbairn wrote. “In reality, that plan has spectacularly backfired. Charm has never been the prince’s strong suit.”

In related news, Prince Andrew will be attending Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding. The duke’s attendance has been confirmed after the palace announced the wedding date.

The Duke of York will be there despite the rumors a few months back claiming that the bride was “seriously considering” banning her father on her special day. Princess Beatrice reportedly doesn’t want any drama on her wedding day and at the time, Prince Andrew’s Epstein scandal has just resurfaced.
