Royal Family

Meghan Markle is not the first royal to face some troubles with her relatives. Prince Philip, Princess Diana, and Kate Middleton also experienced a similar thing.

According to Town & Country’s Marcia Moody, Prince Philip had a chaotic childhood, which extended up until he became an adult. He had issues with his family, so this is why only his mom was invited to his and Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding.

During a previous interview, Prince Philip said, “It’s simply what happened. The family broke up. My mother was ill, my sisters were married, my father was in the south of France. I just had to get on with it. You do. One does.”

Princess Diana’s family, on the other hand, had very strong affiliations with the royal family even before she wed Prince Charles. However, Moody noted that the relationships are nothing more than just that. They were never about personal connections.

The late Princess of Wales soon learned that the British royal family is supposed to come first no matter what. This resulted in her strained relationship with her Spencer side of the clan. While at her funeral in 1997, Princess Diana’s brother, Charles, criticized the royal family for stripping her sister of her HRH title after she passed away.

But in recent years, the feud between the Spencers and Windsors have slowly healed. Charles was most recently seen attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding on May 19.

And when it was Prince William’s turn to marry Middleton, he already learned a thing or two about his relatives’ relationships with their side of the family. Prince William has exerted the effort to get to know the Middletons and involve them in his and his children’s lives.

“Kate’s got a very, very close family. I get on really well with them and I’m very lucky that they’ve been so supportive. Mike and Carole have been really sort of loving and caring and really fun and have been really welcoming towards me, so I’ve felt really a part of the family and I hope that Kate’s felt the same with my family,” Prince William said during an interview.
