Prince William and Kate Middleton broke a 200-year precedent on their first year of marriage by not immediately getting pregnant.

Sarah Reynolds, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at the Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, told Express that Prince William and Middleton didn’t announce that she was pregnant with her first child until seven months after their first wedding anniversary.

It is believed that Prince William’s love for Queen Elizabeth II, as well as his dedication to his royal obligations, were the reasons why they waited to get pregnant.

Gill Knappett, a royal author, said, “It is thought that William and Catherine, as newlyweds, may have delayed starting a family so that they could participate fully in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. Part of William and Catherine’s commitment to the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee year involved the young couple touring Asia on behalf of Her Majesty in September 2012.”

In related news, Reynolds said that Prince Harry and Markle may follow in Prince William and Middleton’s footsteps. After all, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be traveling a lot due to their royal engagements.

“Travel during pregnancy is a concern for many women. But if your pregnancy has no complications then there’s no reason why you can’t travel safely, as long as you take the right precautions,” Reynold said.

Prince William and Middleton also made headlines recently after it was reported that their marriage helped make Chelsy Davy realize that she didn’t want to be part of the royal family.

Angela Levin, the author of “Harry: Conversations with the Prince,” said (via Cosmopolitan), “A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry had been right to separate. Although they had a lot in common, she saw clearly that because they came from such different worlds it could never have worked, especially as she valued her privacy and guarded it so carefully.”
