Kate Middleton and Prince William will be supporting the opposing teams when they attend the Six Nations rugby match this weekend.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Six Nations match on Saturday at Twickenham Stadium. However, the royal couple will be supporting different teams as they are the patrons of the opposing sides.

"The Duke of Cambridge, Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, and The Duchess of Cambridge, Parton of the Rugby Football Union, will attend the England vs Wales Six Nations match on Saturday, 26th February," the announcement shared by royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah on Twitter read.

"The Duke and Duchess will be met on arrival by Jeff Blackett, President of the Rugby Football Union, and Gerald Davies, President of the Welsh Rugby Union. Prior to kick-off, Their Royal Highnesses will also speak to representatives of the RFU's community game, including volunteers and RFU council members."

The "match will be the first" for Middleton to attend in her new role as Patron of the Rugby Football Union. Her husband, Prince William, has been the Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016.

Royal fans knew that there will come a day when the future king and queen consort will have to face each other for their patronages after Middleton took over Prince Harry's previous patronage. However, they didn't expect it to happen so soon. The announcement received mixed responses from the netizens who were excited. Many were wondering on whose side to pick between the royal couple.

"Brilliant! I am backing @EnglandRugby so team Catherine," one wrote in support of the duchess.

"Team #princewilliamisaking #PrinceWilliam #DukeofCambridge @WelshRugbyUnion love me Some Prince William. Sorry Catherine, next time," another added, backing Prince William.

"Catherine will win this time @KensingtonRoyal @EnglandRugby Go go go!!! it's gonna be fun full of teasing and blushing for the winning patron... Cambridges are always fun while Yorks and Sussexes are full of s--ts," another commented.

Meanwhile, some were already very excited to see the royal couple supporting different teams. Others jokingly asked if they would leave the event in different vehicles.

"Can’t wait for this! Let the games begin! It’s going to be wonderful to see them 'competing' on this," one wrote.

"I assume they will be in different cars going home?" another joked.

Middleton officially took over her new royal patronage earlier this month. She made her debut as the royal patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League by visiting Twickenham Stadium and meeting with the England players from the men's and women's squads preparing for the Six Nations Championships.
