  • Princess Beatrice announced her pregnancy Wednesday
  • The baby is due in autumn this year
  • The Princess of York tied the knot with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020

Princess Beatrice got everyone excited when she announced, on Wednesday, that she was expecting her first child with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Shortly after the pregnancy announcement, bookies in the United Kingdom have started working on baby name predictions.

Most choices alluded to Edoardo's Italian background. Among the frontrunners in the betting are Theodore and Florence, with Ladbrokes setting the odds at 9/2 and 4/1, respectively.

Other popular options include Francesco (6/1), Julius (6/1), Cecilia (6/1) and Arabella (5/1). Other preferred names are Teddy, Alberto, Alfonso, Rupert, Alexander and Hugo for a boy, and Gabriella, Allegra, Clementine, Madeleine and Emmeline for a girl.

"The latest odds suggest Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo will opt for a traditional name with a nod to the latter's Italian roots, and as things stand it's Florence and Theodore leading the way in the betting," Ladbrokes' Alex Apati said.

Other reports claimed that Princess Beatrice is likely to pay tribute to her late grandfather, Prince Philip. Most, if not all, royal fans are aware that Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall both honored the late Duke of Edinburgh just before his passing by giving their newly born sons the middle name Philip.

Buckingham Palace, in a statement Wednesday, said, "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."

Princess Beatrice's baby will be the 12th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth. The baby is expected to arrive after Meghan Markle's second child with Prince Harry, which is due this summer. They will be cousins to August, who is the first son of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

Princess Beatrice and Mozzi tied the knot on July 17, 2020, in a private ceremony held at the All Saints Chapel in Windsor Great Park. Mozzi's 4-year-old son, Wolfie, served as the best man and page boy at the function.
