Princess Diana hated something during her honeymoon with Prince Charles.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ honeymoon was a disaster compared to their fairytale-like royal wedding. There’s something that the apparent heir brought along during their “unhappy” honeymoon that the People’s Princess abhorred and they were Prince Charles’ books.

“Diana was no reader and was offended that he should prefer to bury his head in a book rather than sit and talk to her,” Penny Junor wrote in her 2017 biography “The Duchess: The Untold Story.”

“She hated his wretched books.”

Junor added that the future king “envisaged a wonderful holiday in the sun.” Prince Charles was looking forward to swimming, reading, painting and writing thank you letters. So Prince Charles brought along his watercolors, canvases and a pile of books by Laurens van der Post. The said move was considered a snub to Prince Charles’ wife. It wasn’t what Princess Diana envisioned for their honeymoon.

One time, Prince Charles was painting on the veranda deck and went off to look at something for half an hour. When he returned, Princess Diana had already destroyed his painting and art materials.

“It was a disaster, and only served to demonstrate how very little they had in common,” Junor said about Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s honeymoon.

In Channels 5’s documentary “The Royal Family at War,” Junor criticized Prince Charles for his lack of emotional intelligence. She felt that the apparent heir broke Princess Diana’s heart with a stupid decision.

Aside from Prince Charles’ books and art materials, he took a photo of Camilla and inserted it in his diary. The Duchess of Cornwall’s photograph fell out when Princess Diana and Prince Charles checked their schedules.

Prince Charles also decided to wear the cufflinks Camilla gave to him. The accessory featured two entwined C’s that reportedly represented the first letter of their names.

Princess Diana confronted Prince Charles who didn’t deny it. Instead, he insisted that nothing was wrong with it because it was a present from a friend.

However, Princess Diana confessed that there was “total jealousy.” The late Princess of Wales’ former butler Paul Burrell admitted that after that, she instructed him to remove all the C’s of her Chanel shoes and handbags.
