Princess Diana was upset when she found out that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were talking on the phone during a holiday vacation.

According to royal author Katie Nicholl in her book “William and Harry,” there were tensions between the Prince and Princess of Wales in the summer of 1992. Prince Charles and Princess Diana went on a Mediterranean cruise with the future king’s friends Lord and Lady Ramsey aboard the Alexander. However, Princess Diana noticed that her husband was calling the Duchess of Cornwall.

“When Diana discovered that Charles was telephoning Camilla she threatened to go home,” Nicholl wrote. “When they did eventually return to the UK after much upset, the situation worsened.”

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage was very different from their fairytale wedding. Even their eldest son, Prince William, noticed how they argued most of the time.

It came to a point when Prince William got furious with his dad and yelled at the future king, “I hate you, Papa.” Prince William was reportedly hurt because his father made his mom, Princess Diana, cry.

Despite Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marital issues, the latter was determined to make their marriage work. Princess Diana remained in love with Prince Charles. In fact, the People’s Princess wanted to have more kids with the heir.

Unfortunately, Prince Charles and Princess Diana didn’t have the chance to fix their marriage because Camilla never went away. Princess Diana’s private secretary Patrick Jephson believed that the couple could have still mended their relationship if not for the Duchess of Cornwall.

Princess Diana’s former royal protection officer, Ken Wharfe, shared the same opinion. According to him, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom wanted to make her marriage with Prince Charles work so badly, but they never reconciled because Camilla never distanced herself from them.

Even Queen Elizabeth II shared the same sentiment. Tom Bower claimed in his book “Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles” that Her Majesty couldn’t forgive Camilla for not leaving the Prince of Wales to fix his troubled marriage with Princess Diana.

But things have changed since then because the Queen has warmed to Camilla. Her Majesty even recognized Camilla in her speech during Prince Charles’s 70th birthday party.
