  • Sony is set to launch the PS5 on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 depending on the region
  • PlayStation released several demos for early adopters
  • Learn how to transfer data, games and game saves from PS4 to PS5 with these tips

With the imminent launch of the PS5, Sony has released several videos breaking down topics for early adopters and one of these demonstrates the simple process of moving data, games and game saves from the old PlayStation 4 to the next-generation gaming console, PS5.

The simplest and probably the most usual way to move data from the PlayStation 4 to PS5 is through a wired or wireless network data transfer. Typically, a wired transfer is the faster method, but the wireless process works just fine for those who do not have an ethernet cable. To transfer data, first turn on the PS4 and make sure that it runs on the latest software update.

PS5 owners must also make sure that the account in the PS4 is the same account they would use on the PS5. Connect both consoles to the same network but for those using an ethernet cable, connect the PS4 to the PS5 with the cord. Head to the Games/Media tab of the PS5 Setup Modules and press continue under Transfer Data from your PS4.

Interestingly, gamers can start playing games on the PS5 while the PS4 data is being transferred in the background. For players with PS4 titles on external storage devices, simply unplug the storage device from the PS4 and plug it into the PS5. Users can either play directly from the external device or save the titles from the external storage device to the PS5’s internal storage.

Games purchased from the PlayStation Store can be downloaded on the PS5; users just have to log in to their PlayStation account on the new gaming console. Gamers who want to transfer game saves can utilize the same data transfer process in moving titles between current and new generation consoles. Those with PS Plus subscriptions could upload saves to the PSN’s cloud and download saves on the PS5.

Another way of transferring game saves is by copying all save data from the PS4 to a USB drive then copying the files to the PS5 using the thumb drive. A video released by PlayStation is available below. PS5 is set to arrive on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19, depending on the gamer’s region.
