The 72nd Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, kicks off the awards season Sunday. The winners will surely have cause for celebration, but they may be eyeing the industry's biggest prize: the Oscars. Looking back over the last 10 years, can the Golden Globes predict the Oscar winners for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress?

Best Picture

Over the last 10 years, the Golden Globes and the Oscars picked the same film just four times, with half credit for "The Artist" in 2012. The Golden Globes has categories for Best Drama and Best Comedy/Musical, which could boost the odds for the Globes to accurately pick the Oscar winner. The Golden Globes and the Oscars selected "12 Years a Slave" in 2014 and "Argo" in 2013. In 2012, "The Descendants" won Best Drama and "The Artist" won for Best Comedy/Musical at the Globes while the Oscars selected "The Artist" for Best Picture. From 2011 to 2005, the two awards shows picked the same film just once, "Slumdog Millionaire" in 2009. Interestingly, in 2006, "Crash" won the Oscar for Best Picture, but the Paul Haggis-directed movie wasn't even nominated for a Globe.

Best Actor

The Golden Globes was better at predicting the Oscar winner for Best Actor, going nine for 10. In 2009, the Globes selected Mickey Rourke for "The Wrestler" while the Oscars chose Sean Penn for "Milk." The additional comedy/musical category helped the Golden Globes twice. In 2012, the awards show chose George Clooney as Best Actor in a drama and Jean Dujardin as Best Actor in a comedy while the Oscars picked Dujardin for Best Actor. Jamie Foxx won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2005 and picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a comedy/drama. Leonardo DiCaprio won the Globe for Best Actor in a drama that year.

Best Actress

The Golden Globes had similar success in this category but had to rely on the additional comedy/musical category to go 10 for 10. In 2013, Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress and the Golden Globe for Actress in a comedy/musical, Marion Cotillard accomplished the same feat in 2008 and Reese Witherspoon in 2006. Kate Winslet's win in 2009 is perhaps the most interesting bit of trivia regarding the Best Actress category. Winslet won the Globe for her performance in "Revolutionary Road" and the Oscar for "The Reader." Winslet won the Supporting Actress Globe for "The Reader."

The 72nd Golden Globes airs Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
