Selecting the right airline can make the difference between a great trip and a disaster. This year and for the seventh time since 1999, Qatar Airways was named this year's best airline by review site Skytrax.

The Qatari airlines topped the site's 2022 World's Best Airlines to fly based on the survey of 14 million customers in more than 100 countries from September 2021 to August 2022.

"To be named as the World's Best Airline was always a goal when Qatar Airways was created, but to win it for the seventh time and pick up three additional awards is a testament to all the hard work of our incredible employees," Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker said in a statement.

Qatar is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Qatar also picked up awards for best business class.

Singapore Airlines was No. 2, followed by Dubai-based Emirates and ANA All Nippon Airways of Japan. Australia's Qantas Airways was fifth out of more than 350 airlines included in Skytrax's survey results.

Singapore Airlines was also honored for best cabin staff, and ANA All Nippon Airways was named cleanest airline. Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier Scoot won low-cost carrier, followed by Jetstar Airways of Australia. Singapore Airlines also won awards for best first class.

North American airline Delta also received six awards, while Turkish Airlines was named Europe's best airline.

The 2022 World Airline Awards, which were held virtually for the last two years due to COVID, were announced at the Langham Hotel in the U.K. The awards have been given out since 1999.
