Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were recently photographed getting off a train on their way to Sandringham House for the holidays.

On Thursday, the queen and prince decided to take the public vehicle from London’s King’s Cross Station to Norfolk’s King’s Lynn Station, according to E! News.

In the photo, Queen Elizabeth II is wearing a purple trench coat and had a colorful bandana over her head. Prince Philip, on the other hand, is wearing a suit and tie. He also had a book in his hand.

As of late, it is still unclear why the queen and prince decided to take the public transportation instead of their car. But it’s possible that it’s so they could avoid the traffic during the holiday season.

The photos did not also feature other train passengers, which suggest that the royal couple may have been the only two passengers on the train on Thursday morning.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip typically spend Christmas Day in Sandringham. This year, they will be welcoming Meghan Markle into their home. Markle, the fiancée of Prince Harry, is the first ever non-royal to be invited to the family’s gathering.

Markle and Prince Harry have yet to tie the knot on May 19, 2018, but Queen Elizabeth II already agreed to include her in their family’s festivities. Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, did not enjoy the same privilege before they tied the knot in 2011.

But it is important to note that Markle is not from the United Kingdom, unlike Middleton. The “Suits” alum recently moved to London to be closer to her fiancé. Markle’s entire family is in the United States so not spending Christmas with her fiancé could only mean that she will be spending the day on her own.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Markle will also be bonding with Prince George and Princess Charlotte on Christmas morning. The couple will be helping the kids open their presents, according to Entertainment Tonight.

After their Christmas celebrations, Markle and Prince Harry will be heading to another country for a week-long vacation. Details about their trip are still being kept under wraps.
