Queen Elizabeth was rumored to have been offended with the timing of Meghan Markle’s first pregnancy. Kensington Palace confirmed the news shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Australia last year.

On the online forum site Quora, some royal fans are wondering if Her Majesty was upset over the fact that the pregnancy announcement overshadowed the royal couple’s first overseas tour as a married couple.

Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in Australia on behalf of the Queen, they were expected to perform their duties and promote the causes that are most important to them. But after Markle’s pregnancy was announced, the focus went straight to her pregnancy.

David Byrne, a follower of the royal family, said that it is unlikely that the monarch became offended with the announcement since there are protocols that must have been followed. For instance, the Queen is the first member of the royal family other than the couple themselves to know about pregnancies.

“According to some reports, the Queen gave permission to Prince Harry and Meghan to tell those family members who hadn’t been told, so that when the Palace officially announced the pregnancy when the couple arrived for their Royal Tour to Australia two days after the wedding. The Palace made the announcement so it meant that Meghan wasn’t forced to try and hide the pregnancy during the tour,” he said.

Byrne also said that protocols were also followed before Prince Harry and Markle’s engagement was announced. The couple informed the Queen about their plans first and after receiving her blessing, they finally shared the news to the entire world.

Royal fan Jewl Bailey said that it is not only the Queen who needs to be told beforehand about royal pregnancies and engagements.

“I’ve read that it was totally not their decision but a conglomerate decision with all parties weighing in and in agreement with a higher-level royal. We are not privy to royal confidences,” she said.
