Queen Elizabeth II reportedly warned Prince William to be sure of Kate Middleton before they got married.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their time when they were still courting. They had an on-again, off-again relationship for almost a decade. However, before they got married, the Queen still warned the second-in-line to the throne to be very careful when choosing a wife because “enough is enough.”

Her Majesty was referring to the number of divorces in the royal family. The Queen saw the damage inflicted on the monarchy by the divorces of her three children and their spouses – Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Anne and Captain Mark Philips. Aside from this, she witnessed the divorce of her sister, Princess Margaret.

“She now feels, to put it bluntly, that enough is enough,” an insider told Sunday Express in 2006. “She does not want to name names, but she is adamant that there are going to be no further royal divorces during her reign.”

The source added that the concept of divorce is against the Queen’s whole upbringing which is about duty and soldiering on in the face of adversity. Furthermore, she inherited a lot of Queen Mother’s view who was scarred by King Edward and Wallis Simpson’s scandal. The Queen’s stern warning has made both Prince William and Prince Harry decide that when they marry it would be “for keeps.”

Prince William was also adamant on marrying Middleton because he didn’t want to end up his marriage in divorce. He witnessed how his parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana bicker and argue during their unhappy marriage. He knew that Prince Charles was just pressured into marrying his mom because she was the perfect bride and he didn’t want to find himself in the same boat, so he took his own pace.

Earlier this years, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s marriage was tested due to the duke’s rumored infidelity. Prince William reportedly cheated on Middleton with their family friend, Rose Hanbury. However, an insider revealed that the couple is not splitting and the duke’s lawyers have already denied the cheating rumors and have already taken legal actions about it.
