Queen Elizabeth II was interested in Kate Middleton, but the monarch had some reservations.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had almost a decade-long courtship. However, Queen Elizabeth II waited for five years before she met Middleton. According to a source close to Her Majesty, she was interested in Prince William’s then-girlfriend that she even asked a friend about her work because she had some concerns regarding Middleton’s career.

“The Queen is interested in Kate,” the source told Kate Nicholl in her 2010 biography “William and Harry.”

“[The Queen] was having a conversation with a friend and asked, ‘What is it exactly that Kate does?’” the insider said.

The source added that it was a “fair enough question” from the Queen. At the time, Middleton was always partying and vacationing in Mustique that she was even dubbed “Queen of Mustique.”

The Queen was reportedly not happy about it. Middleton had no full-time work and the monarch found her “frivolous displays of wealth unpalatable.”

Middleton was “super hurt” with the Queen’s comments. But that motivated her to change for the better and she has successfully convinced the Queen to change her mind about her. Middleton has done more than enough to prove herself to her royal grandmother-in-law.

“As well as undertaking royal duties in support of The Queen, both in the UK and overseas, The Duchess devotes her time to supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life,” the Royal Family’s official website says about Middleton.

Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship has since improved. However, many felt that the monarch just showed a subtle sign that she prefers Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over Prince William and Middleton.

During the Queen’s meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, netizens noticed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s photo was placed in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s. According to one netizen, her grandma placed the photos of her favorite grandkids at the front on the mantlepiece.

“She’s definitely hinting that she prefers Harry and Meg,” another royal fan wrote.
