Ubisoft’s “Rainbow Six Siege” recently celebrated April Fool's Day with a cutesy event mode. This mode pits players in a modified map to rescue the Mr. Bear hostage and earn unique themed cosmetics for this event. Here’s what we know about the new “Rainbow Six Siege” event.

As seen in-game, the “Rainbow Is Magic” game mode takes the game’s name literally. Instead of the usual hard-boiled, gritty, police first-person shooter visuals, it’s all replaced with candy colors and unicorn walls which definitely kill the serious tone of each match.

In “Rainbow Is Magic,” two teams will be pitted against each other in a Hostage match where the attacking team must retrieve the hostage and the defending team must defend the hostage. The silly twist in the game mode is that the hostage is not a bound civilian, but a costumed mascot named “Mr. Bear.” The hostage doesn’t seem to mind that people around him are carrying high caliber guns and keeps up a jolly attitude throughout the match.

To further kill the game’s serious mood, each playable operator is also dressed in a cutesy style of their uniform or in a solid, saturated color akin to plastic toy soldiers.

Not all available operators in the regular “Rainbow Six Siege” matches are playable in this mode. For example, Blackbeard is playable in this mode, and he sports a high ponytail rather than his helmet. Meanwhile, Smoke’s gas mask is crossed with a stuffed toy’s head. Regardless of their sillier getups in this mode, all of their guns and tools hurt the same.

Lastly, players can bring the unique cosmetics out of this game mode by participating in the daily quests related to this event. The event started on April 1 and will last a week until April 8. Players would have to complete the event quests to earn the packs that contain the “Rainbow is Magic” cosmetics seen in the event matches.

Currently, “Rainbow Six Siege” is in its first operation in its fourth season this year. The “Operation: Burnt Horizon” features Austrailian operatives which excel in hampering foes and have a confusing toolset for the team they play in.

For now, fans will have to wait for the next update to see the second out of four sets of Operators added this year.
