  • Real Madrid and Liverpool are chasing to sign Mbappe
  • PSG signed Mbappe for $155 million in 2017

Liverpool FC and Real Madrid reportedly will battle out to sign Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe at the end of the 2020-21 season.

French publication l'Equipe reported Mbappe has already informed PSG he wants to leave in the 2021 summer and his representatives have regularly been in touch with both Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Mbappe, who moved from Monaco to PSG for $155 million in 2017, was the most expensive teenager in the history of European soccer. He was also the second-most expensive player after his PSG teammate Neymar, who joined PSG from FC Barcelona for a whopping fee of $191 million.

Mbappe, who earns $20 million annually plus performance bonuses at PSG, is expected to become the most expensive signing next summer, and considering Real Madrid’s superior financial situation, the Spanish club could beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in acquiring the signatures of the 2018 World Cup winner. The French striker is expected to demand at least $640,000-a-week, which would not fit in Liverpool’s current wage structure.

Mbappe, who has scored 91 goals in as many as 125 competitive matches for PSG, is tipped to be the future star after the duo of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo call it quits. The 21-year-old is currently contracted with PSG until 2022 and the Ligue 1 champions would aim to cash in on their star player next summer.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema will turn 33 this December and Los Blancos are seeing Mbappe as his ideal long-term replacement. The fact that Mbappe idolizes his compatriot and current Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and that could possibly give the Spanish giants the edge during the 2021 summer transfer market.

In 2018, the 19-year old Mbappe became the youngest Frenchmen to score in a World Cup and overall, the second-youngest after Pele to score in a World Cup Final. Mbappe was Ligue 1’s leading goal scorer in the 2018-29 and 2019-20 editions and was named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 2019.
