The Boston sports fans are still celebrating the Red Sox being crowned the World Series champions on Sunday night and a look at recent history suggests it could well be just the tip of the iceberg looking ahead to the 2018-19 season.

The Major League Baseball outfit (MLB) were crowned champions for the ninth time in the franchise’s history following their 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Red Sox set the record for most wins in the team’s history on their way to the title and are being hailed as potentially the greatest Red Sox team in the history of the franchise.

The Boston team’s president Sam Kennedy praised the fans after the team and the management landed in Boston on Monday. He also praised the players and their willingness to fight for each other, which he admits was key in their run to the title. The Red Sox CEO then went on to claim they could go down as the “greatest Red Sox team in history.”

“We are so grateful. The fans are the best in baseball and you realize that when you travel to New York, Houston and LA, great cities, but they can’t compare to Boston. We have the best fans in the world,” Kennedy said Monday, as per NESN.

“It will start to set in in the next couple of days,” he added when asked if he has had time to reflect on the win. “But this team from start to finish is about being relentless and dominant and each year and each championship has had a theme.”

“This team is just a great baseball team and they loved each other and played for each other and it was a really special year. I think they will all start to realize when the history books are written that this will go down as the greatest Red Sox team in history. I really believe that.”

The city of Boston has planned a parade of Duck Boats for Wednesday, which is likely to bring all the fans out to the streets to celebrate the latest pro sports championship to grace the city. However, the Red Sox win could just be the start of what could be a successful next 12 months.

The Red Sox’s triumph is the 11th championship for Boston pro sports teams since 2001. The New England Patriots have won five Super Bowls, the MLB franchise have added four World Series titles, while NHL franchise Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and the Celtics brought home the NBA championship in 2008.

The 2018-19 season could prove to bring more joy for the sports fans in Boston with the NFL and NBA season only recently getting underway. The Celtics are tipped as one of the favorites to progress to the NBA Finals from the Eastern Conference, while the Patriots are also one of the bookmakers’ top picks to win the Super Bowl in 2019.

Kyrie Irving and co have made a decent start to the new campaign and are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference having won four of their six games thus far. There is a long way to go in the season, but the team’s strength in depth along with two All-Stars in Irving and Gordon Hayward has seen many experts tip them to win the East title and progress to the summit clash in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Patriots, who have won five Super Bowls since 2001 – with the most recent coming in 2015 and 2017 – are currently leading the AFC East standings having won six of their eight games. Bill Belichick’s side have been installed as 6-1 favorites to lift the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl 53 by Sportsline’s gambling analyst and CBS Sports editor RJ White.

The Red Sox could themselves conclude what could potentially be a memorable 12 months for Boston pro sports fans after the 2018 World Series champions were installed as favorites with 7/1 odds to again win the Commissioner’s Trophy in 2019.
