The rescuers of the puppy with a tail like growth in its forehead decided to keep it with them. The beagle-mix breed "unicorn puppy" was earlier put up for adoption.

The founder of Mac’s Mission shelter in Missouri, Rochelle Steffen, decided to keep the puppy at the shelter as she was flooded with almost 7,000 inquiries about the puppy. She and her team rescued the puppy on Nov. 13 from a garbage dump and on discovering the tail-like growth on its forehead, she named it "Narwhal the Little Furry Magical Unicorn."

After a video featuring the puppy became viral on social media, Steffen received around 300 applications to adopt it but the shelter decided otherwise. The shelter in an Instagram post said, “He is not available for adoption immediately as we want him to grow a bit more and truly make sure the tail doesn’t become a bother or problem.”

The shelter said there was further danger to the puppy after the viral video as there were several death threats. The immense number of applicants had caused increased security and people were allowed inside only based on appointments at the shelter.

Steffen also added that she was concerned about the safety of the puppy after the threats and that people made big offers for its adoption but she refused, stating, “But he’s not for sale”. She further said the decision to keep the puppy was not hers alone. She said, “It’s not just a decision from me. The whole rescue (team) cannot fathom him leaving. We all fell in love with him.”

The puppy’s rescuers added that the puppy was doing fine and was “sassy and chubby and completely happy and has no clue... that he’s famous.”
