  • Richard Gasquet is one of the more consistent players of the current era
  • Throughout his career, Gasquet believes that the big three are the greatest players in history

It has been an eventful year for tennis with the threat of the global pandemic affecting the sport’s calendar. But with everything that is happening, tennis star Richard Gasquet shared his thoughts on the Big Three debate.

Throughout Gasquet’s career, he’s served as a consistent competitor among the tennis’ best stars. While he hasn’t achieved the illustrious Grand Slam, he’s more than capable to keep up with the world's best.

With this, he acknowledges that Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are among the best in the current generation. The achievements of the three have surpassed everyone’s expectations as the trio has been constantly thrown in the greatest of all-time discussion.

These three are the biggest icons in the sport as they continue to take control of the tennis scene. Their achievements have been immense as Federer currently leads all male players with the most Grand Slams.

The 20 majors Federer may seem untouchable but Nadal has slowly caught up. The left-handed Spaniard has tallied a total of 19 Grand Slams and is in position to tie Federer as the best of all time.

But with Federer and Nadal competing close to each other, the current world number one Djokovic is right behind them with 17. Given that the Djokovic is the youngest among the three puts him in a to wrap everything up on top.

While their skills are elite even among the best, Gasquet points out one thing that makes them stand out.

“There are mental aspects to become the best. When you see Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic playing, they are the best players in the history of tennis and they have no flaws,” Gasquet said by way of Essentially Sports.

“So however you put the mind you want, they play tennis better than the others,” Gasquet added.

It’s difficult to compare eras as those who came before the big three have laid the foundation of the sport. But Gasquet emphasizes that at this stage of tennis, there’s no touching the three.

“You can put what you want, the best will remain the best. They are the strongest from very far away and even perhaps the three best players of the history,” Gasquet concluded.

It will be interesting to monitor what will happen in the near future and how the landscape of tennis will look like in the coming years when the big three are done with their illustrious careers.
