  • The original "Rome: Total War" is regarded as one of the best games in the franchise

A live-action trailer for “Total War: Rome Remastered” was released under the official “Total War” social media channels, revealing an April 29 release date for the modernized classic.

A number of content creators under the Total War Partner program were able to showcase gameplay of the remastered game, which features 4K textures, update unit models, new gameplay content and cross-platform multiplayer support. “Total War: Rome Remastered” will also come with the game’s original expansions, including all of the playable factions and 16 others that were not available in the base game.

However, Creative Assembly will not be the one behind this game. A new studio named Feral Interactive will be leading the remaster’s development in collaboration with Creative Assembly and Sega, Polygon reported.

The official Steam page for “Total War: Rome Remastered” lists all of the game’s new and improved features. The total faction count is now 38, up from 22, and the graphics have been updated to support ultra widescreen and native UHD resolution.

Other graphical improvements include lighting and particle effect overhauls, a high-definition world map, remodeled units and better environmental effects.

Gameplay-wise, “Total War: Rome Remastered” will now have some of the gameplay features found in the newer “Total War” titles. The in-game camera now has increased functionality, including wider zoom ranges and map rotation. Players will now be able to use the tactical map interface when in Battles and new hud elements are now available in the campaign map screen.

To top it off, owners of the original game will be able to purchase the remastered version for half the price until May 31.

“Rome: Total War” is widely considered to be one of the best military strategy games of all time. It features large-scale real-time clashes between historical factions found in the era of Ancient Rome. The game also has elements of territory management and diplomacy.

The game is also considered one of the best entries in the entire “Total War” franchise. It was originally released in 2004 and did not receive a direct sequel until 2013. Creative Assembly has since included many other historical eras as part of the “Total War” franchise, including the Napoleonic Wars and the Sengoku Era of Japan.

Games Workshop’s “Warhammer Fantasy” series has also been incorporated into the “Total War” franchise as “Total War: Warhammer,” which is slated to receive its third game this year.
