While the mixed martial arts world eagerly awaits former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s (12-1, 3 KOs) return to the octagon, retired UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell told TMZ Wednesday that Rousey supporters should temper their expectations.

Rousey is scheduled to face reigning division champion and Brazilian Amanda Nunes (13-4, 9 KOs) Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, more than 13 months after she was knocked out by American Holly Holm in her first-ever loss.

The previously ubiquitous Rousey has largely stayed away from the public eye since the defeat, which is the main issue the “Iceman” Liddell had with the 29-year-old Rousey’s chances against Nunes.

"I don’t know it’s gonna be an interesting fight to see where her head’s at after all that stuff," Liddell said while walking through Los Angeles International Airport. "I mean I don’t know it’s gonna really weird for me to see, or interesting to see what she comes back with."

Liddell specifically said that facing a talented and top-ranked fighter like Nunes at the start of a hopeful comeback trail is a tall task to ask of anyone, but that Rousey’s stardom may be the reason.

"Well I wouldn’t take the chance with her, with all the mental stuff with it," he said. "I mean, I, personally as a coach, I wouldn’t like to have her come back. It’s hard at her stature to come back at a smaller fight I would’ve tried to give a warmup, I would've got her a warm-up fight.

"This is a tough, tough opponent. She’s a very tough opponent, but if you wanna come back that’s the one to come back and show you’re back. The thing that worries me is that a guy like Aldo gets knocked out, but he wanted to fight that day, he wanted another shot at it that day, that’s a fighter that’s a guy that’s got it together up here 'I made a mistake I know what I did, I wanna win now.'

"She bolted, I don’t know what happened to her."

When asked if he would "bet the house" on Rousey to win, Liddell was skittish.

"I don’t know where she is mentally, I mean I haven’t talked to her I haven’t seen her I haven’t been around her camp at all so I don’t have nay inside news on that. But personally all the stuff afterwards and the way she handled it I’d be nervous."

Despite Liddell’s reservations, Rousey is considered the favorite. She’s currently listed at -165 odds compared to Nunes at +135 at online sportsbook Bovada.lv.
