KEY POINTS

  • The Milwaukee Bucks continue to shop around Grayson Allen
  • Jae Crowder has been the subject of multiple trade rumors as well
  • The Phoenix Suns could trade Crowder for Allen, but it still does not address their frontcourt issues

The Phoenix Suns have been looking to trade disgruntled forward Jae Crowder for quite a while now, and rumors of them entertaining the Milwaukee Bucks as a potential trade partner have grown closer to possibly happening.

The Chicago Sun Times recently posted about the Chicago Bulls possibly trading Coby White for the Bucks' Grasyon Allen, whom they have been reportedly shopping around.

The chances of a trade between the Bulls and Bucks are unlikely to happen due to the Bucks' desired return.

"The Bucks reportedly are shopping guard Grayson Allen, who would be a perfect fit for the Bulls... The issue is that the Bucks are looking for a defensive-minded frontcourt player in return. (Coby) White is neither of those," the report read.

However, Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer first reported the Suns and Bucks possibly engaging in a deal that will send Allen to Phoenix and Crowder to Milwaukee because of the latter's interest in Crowder being reportedly "well known."

"Salary-wise, the two wings do fit a direct one-for-one swap, sending Crowder to the new home he desires, and yielding Phoenix the rotation piece its seeking in return for Crowder," Fischer added.

The Suns have been in no rush to trade Crowder after the tenacious 3-and-D forward decided to ask for a trade this offseason, with no given reason.

Phoenix fans have drawn up the idea that Crowder is not at all interested in playing for the Suns this season after the team decided to promote young forward Cameron Johnson to the starting lineup, thus relegating Crowder to the bench.

However, a more plausible idea would be the Suns and Crowder being in a stalemate over his extension.

Crowder entered the final year of his three-year, $29 million deal that he signed ahead of the 2020-21 season.

There is no doubt that the Marquette product has been an important piece for the Suns' rise to relevancy as a forward that can provide them some much-needed physicality on both ends of the floor while also being a three-point shooting threat.

Bringing Allen to Phoenix does solve their issues with Crowder, but it brings up a problem in their frontcourt depth.

Allen does provide them depth in the shooting guard/small forward positions and is capable of going on a hot streak of his own from deep, but it still does not give them a player capable of playing extended minutes in the power forward position.

The good news for Suns fans is that Johnson is expected to return sometime between December and January.

While it is a light at the end of the tunnel, the clamor to sufficiently replace Crowder's production is only expected to increase as the season continues.
