A Russian citizen and her 7-year-old daughter were injured in a missile attack launched by Moscow on Kyiv.

As the Russian missile hit a nine-story apartment block in the central Shevchenkivskiy district, the Russian woman lost her husband while her 7-year-old daughter, Zhenya, was injured, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The Sunday attack on the Ukrainian capital was the first in three weeks and left one dead while around five others were injured. The attack coincided with the kick-off of the G7 summit in Germany.

Zelenskyy noted that the girl is receiving treatment at a children’s hospital, the Yahoo News reported.

"Her mother was also wounded. By the way, she is a citizen of Russia. That's that," Zelenskyy said in his daily address.

"She was not threatened by anything in our country, she was completely safe until Russia itself decided that everything was equally hostile to them now - women, children, kindergartens, apartment buildings, hospitals, railways," he went on to say.

Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, visited the site in the aftermath of the attack and accused Vladimir Putin of committing genocide.

“Vladimir Putin finds any reason to attack Kyiv,” Klitschko said. “Why does he want to kill civilians? It is genocide.”

Since Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February, Kyiv was under attack for months and had just started to get back on its feet with some normalcy when the Russian missiles hit the capital Sunday.

Klitschko wrote on Telegram about the 7-year-old girl who was rescued from the rubble.

“They (rescuers) have pulled out a seven-year-old girl. She is alive. Now they're trying to rescue her mother," Klitschko said, according to Reuters. "There are people under the rubble.”

The girl was conscious when she arrived at the hospital, according to a Facebook update from the Ohmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital.

“The girl had numerous wounds, bruises and abrasions. She received highly qualified medical care. The child went through the surgery, now she is in stable condition. Her life is not in danger,” the hospital said.

Marina, 33, a resident of an apartment building close to the missile strike, said her apartment did not suffer any damage.

“We heard four explosions, they were very loud,” Marina said, as per The Guardian. “An entire building was shaking. Luckily, our apartment is fine. Originally we are from Chernihiv, we’ve lived through all this and now again … I don’t know if I want to move out, I need to calm down and then decide.”

Another Russian airstrike hit a shopping mall Monday in Kremenchuk, central Ukraine, and killed at least 16 people and wounded 59. Around 1,000 people were bustling about inside the crowded mall during the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
