“Salvation” stars Charlie Rowe, Santiago Cabrera, Jennifer Finnigan and Ian Anthony Dale will all return for a 13-episode Season 2 of the CBS series. CBS

CBS has renewed “Salvation” for Season 2, and its stars Jennifer Finnigan, Ian Anthony Dale and Charlie Rowe couldn’t be happier with the news.

Shortly after the season renewal was announced on Wednesday, Finnigan took to Twitter to tell the show’s fans that that their social media campaign to help convince the network order another season of the series finally came to fruition.

In another tweet, Finnigan wrote that she’s excited to reprise her role as Pentagon press secretary Grace Barrows in the sophomore run of the suspense drama.

Meanwhile, Dale tweeted that he’s thrilled to have another opportunity to work with his “Salvation” co-stars, while Rowe thanked everyone who have supported the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Salvation” will return in summer 2018 for a 13-episode Season 2.

The first season of the series started with MIT grad student Liam Cole (Rowe) and tech billionaire Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera) telling Grace that an asteroid was just months away from colliding with Earth. With the added threat of nuclear on the horizon, the trio teamed up with Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards (Dale) to find a way to divert the asteroid, stop war and save humanity before time runs out.

The freshman run ended with Grace, Harris and sci-fi author Jillian Hayes (Jacqueline Byers) among those sealed off from the world in the Salvation ark hangar for 30 days, while the threat of nuclear war with Russia loomed. Darius and Liam, meanwhile, stayed at Tanz Industries headquarters to revisit the plan to redirect the asteroid from hitting Earth.

Season 1 also starred Rachel Drance as Grace’s daughter Zoe Barrows; Shazi Raja as investigative reporter Amanda Neel; Sasha Roiz as President Bennett; and Erica Luttrell as the president’s senior adviser Claire Rayburn.

“Salvation” is co-created by Liz Kruger, Craig Shapiro and Matt Wheeler. Kruger and Shapiro serve as showrunners and executive produce with Alex Kurtzman, his producing partner Heather Kadin, Stuart Gillard and Peter Lenkov. CBS Television Studios produces the drama in association with Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout.
