  • Samsung released the Galaxy S10 Lite in Europe
  • Today the South Korean tech and electronics giant announces that the Galaxy S10 Lite is now available for US consumers
  • The base model of the Galaxy S10 Lite retails at $650

Following the Galaxy S10 Lite's earlier release in Europe, the South Korean tech giant finally rolls out its latest low-cost phone in the US. The base model of the new smartphone retails at $650. It is scheduled to start shipping on Apr. 17, the same date that Apple starts accepting pre-orders for its entry-level iPhone SE 2020.

Just a few hours following the launch of the iPhone SE 2020, several sites reported that Samsung is finally announcing the release details of the Galaxy S10 Lite. While many are expecting the low-cost smartphone from Samsung to be easy on the wallet, it turns out that it isn’t the case. For Samsung, the new Galaxy S10 Lite is “a device with speed, storage and plenty of battery life, along with a pro-grade camera, and gorgeous Infinity Display.”

However, the South Korean tech giant already slashed the price of the released Galaxy S10 series when it launched the Galaxy S20 lineup. So, it turns out that instead of offering a lower-priced smartphone, the company apparently is selling it more than the price of the Galaxy S10e. Starting Apr. 17, the Galaxy S10 Lite is on sale for only $650 and available on Amazon, Best Buy, and its official website.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite houses Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, just like the Galaxy S10 series that was launched in 2019. Instead of the telephoto lens, the device features macro and comes with a plastic design. Interestingly, instead of supporting quad HD pixels, it only supports full HD resolution.

The Galaxy S10 Lite is $250 more than the latest budget iPhone from Apple and less than $50 of the recently launched OnePlus 8. Many tech enthusiasts find the pricing as “not so enthusiastic,” considering the launched of its rivals. According to Tom’s Guide, although the iPhone SE 2020 is a smaller device, it is more powerful than Samsung’s budget smartphone.

Meanwhile, OnePlus 8 is superior to the Galaxy S10 Lite in terms of performance and display with only a $50 price difference. Recently, Google slashed the price of the Pixel 3a, which is now available for only $249, perhaps in preparation for the arrival of the Google Pixel 4a, which could also challenge the Galaxy S10 Lite.
