  • Samsung has a new foldable device exclusively for China
  • The Galaxy W21 5G is bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 2
  • The device is designed for those who can afford to splurge $3,000 on a smartphone

Samsung has released a foldable smartphone that’s even bigger than the huge Galaxy Z Fold 2. This device, however, will only be sold to the Chinese market.

The South Korean tech giant recently released the new Galaxy W21 5G, a foldable smartphone that looks a lot like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This device is exclusive to China, Sammobile reported. It’s designed for those who can afford to splurge $3,000 on a single device, Ars Technica noted.

The huge Galaxy W21 5G might look very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at first glance, but the two devices aren’t exactly the same.

Images shared by known leaker IceUniverse showed that the new handset is bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. A TENAA certification, however, indicates that despite the difference in physical size, the display remains the same size: 7.6 inches.

Here’s a quick look at the device’s specs and features:

Displays

The Galaxy W21 5G features Super AMOLED Infinity-O displays on the outside and the inside, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The cover display has a 60Hz refresh rate and only has HD+ resolution. The inner display, on the other hand, has faster 120Hz refresh rate and QHD+ resolution, making it the perfect choice for video streaming.

Innards

The new device is powered by the same processor inside the Galaxy Z Fold 2: a Snapdragon 865+ chipset. It also offers 12GB of RAM, but the storage has been bumped to 512GB. It also offers the convenience of dual-SIM support.

Other specs

The device has a 4390mAh battery, which is smaller than the 4500mAh battery on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, has a triple-camera setup at the back and a dual-camera setup in front.

The Galaxy W21 5G runs on Android 10-based One UI 2.5 out of the box.

Interestingly, the device only comes in one flashy color: gold. Samsung designed the smartphone so that it will be gold all over, including the hideaway hinge and rear camera module.

The Galaxy W21 5G looks like it has some vertical ribbings at the back, but the rear panel is actually covered with a layer of glass and is flat to the touch.
