KEY POINTS

  • Samsung will be releasing an affordable smartphone called the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition very soon
  • The Galaxy S20 FE is expected to sell for at least $250 less than the Galaxy S20
  • A YouTuber acquired a unit ahead of release and leaked its specs and features

Samsung is expected to announce a new device during its Unpacked event, which the company calls a “Galaxy Unpacked for every fan,” on Wednesday, Sept. 23. But one YouTuber has already revealed the Galaxy S20 FE, or “fan edition,” ahead of the event.

YouTuber Jimmy Is Promo got his hands on a Galaxy S20 FE unit days before the Unpacked event and created a short video where he shows the device and talks about its specs, as well as why consumers should consider the handset. Here are some key takeaways from the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE video:

It's cheaper than other Samsung flagships

While Samsung hasn't announced an official price yet, fans can expect the Galaxy S20 FE to be cheaper than the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20. These two were priced at least $999 at launch. The Galaxy S20 FE, however, might sell for about $699 or $750 depending on storage configuration, the YouTuber speculated.

It's packed with flagship specs

Despite the cheaper price and different look, the Galaxy S20 FE is still packed with flagship-level specs and features. For one, it is powered by a Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is backed by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This puts it on par with the pricier Galaxy smartphones.

It's currently unclear, however, if Samsung will equip units for other countries with an Exynos processor.

It has a flat screen

A quick look at the video shows that Galaxy S20 FE's bezels on the left and right sides are thicker than the ones on the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20. This, according to Jimmy Is Promo, is because it has a flat display whereas the other models have a curved display, making their bezels look significantly slimmer.

Galaxy S20 FE has a full HD display with 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a punch hole at the top center for a selfie camera.

Other things

The video showed that Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will have a plastic casing, which can be expected for a cheaper model. It still has the same camera setup as the Galaxy S20, comprised of three sensors at the back and one sensor in front.

Galaxy S20 FE is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery, can be charged wirelessly and offers PowerShare. The device doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Fans and interested parties should stay tuned and wait for Samsung to officially unveil the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition during the upcoming Unpacked event.
