Serena Williams has said she feels inspired by other sportspersons, irrespective of the game but made a special mention about her fellow player Roger Federer.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has insisted that she would like to play as long as Federer will play.

"I feel like I love what I do and I feel like when I’m out there I’m the best at what I do. However long Roger Federer plays, I’ll play. Athletes across the board, basketball, tennis, football … they’re playing into their 40s. That would have never have happened a decade ago or 20 years ago. I’m part of a new generation that was really fortunate to work with better technology, equipment and shoes. And, even knowing how to take care of your body," the American tennis ace added.

"So, your body, even though it’s at a certain age, it actually feels like it’s much younger. Everyone says it, but they don’t put the work in. I wasn’t the best player, I wasn’t the most talented, by far not the tallest," Serena said.

Serena also mentioned that a player does not have to be rich or the smartest among his or her competitors to be the best.

"You don’t have to be the smartest. You don’t have to have the most money. You don’t have to have the most open doors for you. You have to have the attitude that you’re going to be the hardest worker. [Say to yourself] ‘I’m not going to let anything stop me. I’m not going to give up,'" the 38-year-old added.

Meanwhile, the president of Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Micky Lawler earlier claimed that Serena Williams might be “irreplaceable” but the younger generation is already coming.

"What is really cool about this era is we still have Serena and Venus Williams as very active leaders of our game, playing at a time when we have this wonderful new generation of stars coming through,” Lawler said.

Similar to the William sisters - Serena and Venus - Lawler said he believed that the likes of Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu will all be exceptional players in the tennis as they are already remarkable at the current stage of their careers.

"To see Serena and Venus playing against these new stars is a wonderful spectacle. We are seeing an evolution of champions. Elina Svitolina, Karolína Plíšková, Petra Kvitova and Simona Halep are established champions and we also have the next generation of Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu after winning Grand Slam titles in 2019," Lawler added.
