There’s a reason why Bindi Irwin’s grandfather Bob has decided not to attend her wedding to Chandler Powell.

Back in August, the father of the late Steve Irwin shocked many fans when he disclosed in an interview that he is not attending Bindi’s wedding, which is set to happen sometime next year.

The 80-year-old conservationist revealed this amid reports claiming that the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 21 winner and her husband-to-be were eager to start a family soon, such that Bindi is open to becoming a pregnant bride.

However, it was not because Bindi was reportedly trying to get pregnant first that caused Bob to ditch the nuptials. Instead, it has something to do with their long-running family feud that appeared to have started a few years after Steve passed away.

Back in 2008, two years after Steve’s death, Bob decided to resign from his post at the Australia Zoo, which he founded 40 years ago. He then distanced himself from the zoo and Bindi’s family since then.

Bob has expressed in the past that he was not happy with how their zoo was becoming too commercialized ever since Steve’s passing. Then in 2015, he publicly confirmed that he and Bindi’s family were no longer on speaking terms. He said in an interview that “it’s just the way things are.”

Ever since then Bob has remained estranged from his son’s family, so his decision not to attend Bindi’s wedding shouldn’t come as a surprise. He also initially refused to congratulate Bindi on her engagement and upcoming nuptials.

However, he did retract his statement in a more recent interview, saying that he just made an innocent mistake. He has since extended his well-wishes to the bride-to-be and her family.

But then again he did not confirm that he’ll be showing up at Bindi’s wedding. Bob voiced his longing for them after admitting that it has been more than a decade since he’s seen Bindi and the latter’s brother, Robert.

In related news, Bindi has revealed that her younger brother would be the one to walk her down the aisle because they feel that their father would have wanted it this way.
