Simon Cowell is finally engaged to his longtime love Lauren Silverman after a nearly two-decades-long romance.

A source told People that Cowell, 62, proposed to Silverman, 44, on Christmas Eve in Barbados, where they first met. According to the insider, the proposal took place during a family vacation. The longtime couple was strolling on a beach when Cowell surprised Silverman by getting down on one knee. The couple’s 7-year-old son, Eric, and Silverman’s 16-year-old son, Adam, were also present during the special moment.

“They are both super happy,” the source said, adding: “They’ve been together a long time now and adore each other so it’s not a huge surprise to their close friends.”

Talking about the proposal, an insider told Page Six: “It was super sweet. They’re good together.”

Cowell and Silverman’s romance dates back to 2004. At the time, Silverman was married to Cowell’s good friend, real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, the father of Adam.

In 2013, multiple outlets confirmed that Silverman was expecting her first child with the “America’s Got Talent” judge. She and Andrew filed for divorce not long after.

While Cowell and Silverman have kept their relationship mostly private, they have been inseparable. After welcoming their child in 2014, Cowell, who once said he didn’t want children, opened up about parenthood and shared how becoming a father has brought out his softer side.

On The Kelly Clarkson Show in May 2021, he said he fell in love with his son before he even came out. “From that moment I saw the ultrasound scan, I was like, ‘That is it, I’m besotted,’” he said. “Now I just cannot imagine my life without him. He’s the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. I adore him,” he added.

Although Cowell and Silverman rarely post about their romance on social media, they often attend red carpet events together. In August 2018, Cowell also gave a special shout-out to his girlfriend when he was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Lauren, you’ve been my rock for the past few years, put up with everything I put up with,” he said.
