A small plane crashed in Tuolumne County, California, on Wednesday evening, leaving two persons dead, police said.

The plane dashed against the ground just after 9:00 p.m. EST in the 21,000 block of Springfield Road, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Police said details about the possible cause of the crash or the plane’s destination were not immediately available. Deputies were deployed at the scene during the night for security. “There is no threat to nearby communities,” they added.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will arrive Thursday and probe further into the incident to identify the decedents. Police didn’t say if more people were on board when the plane crashed.

This is a developing story.
