Snake Bites 57-Year-Old Man Working In Farm, Victim Hospitalized

In a horrific incident, a 57-year-old man working in a farm in the Canary Islands was bitten by a snake Tuesday morning.

The victim was conscious when emergency personnel arrived at Cork Street. The man, who has not been identified, said he was bitten on the hand by the snake, local media The Voices reported.

"The Soufriere Fire Station received a call from the Canaries Health Centre for a victim of a snake bite who needed to be transported to the Owen King EU Hospital for treatment," Fireman Damian Baptiste told Loop News.

"The patient was assessed and found to be oriented. Swelling was observed around the bite area and the patient complained of pain and some numbness to the injury site," Baptiste said.

After receiving some treatment, the victim was transported to the OKEU Hospital where he was treated. The man is said to be in stable condition, The Voices reported.

The species and the size of the snake was not revealed by the victim. It also remains unclear if the snake was caught or if it escaped.

Last month, a 3-year-old girl in Australia was bitten by a deadly snake. The child narrowly escaped death due to the prompt action by her family. According to reports at the time, the girl was playing with her brother and grandmother at their home when she accidentally stepped on a snake. The reptile bit the girl on her leg and slithered away.

The victim's grandmother immediately wrapped a bandage around the girl's leg and kept her still until an ambulance arrived. The child was rushed to Rockingham General Hospital where she received treatment. Authorities said the girl's life was saved due to the rapid first-aid treatment she received after getting bitten by the reptile.

In another incident, a woman in Australia was bitten by a snake that slithered inside her home. The incident took place in the Gold Coast hinterland. A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told the media the woman was bitten on the hand. Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
