  • Reports claim some Tesla Model Y owners are facing quality issues
  • Elon Musk said in an email the company needs to focus on quality assurance
  • Some of the issues allegedly include misaligned panels and seat backs not attached to the frame

Electric car maker Tesla is having difficulties ramping up the production of the Model Y. Its Model 3 may have been compared with a 90s model Kia, but the Model Y is an extremely modern crossover.

Apparently, buyers on Reddit shared that they had to deal with problems like the backseat not being attached to the vehicle’s frame.

According to Extreme Tech, reports of shoddy workmanship have arisen since Tesla began production of the Model Y at its California plant. Tesla has also indirectly confirmed there were issues with the model though no official statements have been made yet.

The issues allegedly range from the small stuff like swirl marks in the paint to misaligned panels. June is the end of the second quarter, so some of the issues may be from hurrying the units out the door to make the delivery numbers. Some of the owners were told they would get their deliveries before the end of the month only for delays to occur.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent out an email highlighting the importance of ramping up production and to reduce the need for rectification, the same Extreme Tech report claimed.

“It is extremely important for us to ramp up Model Y production and minimize rectification needs,” Musk wrote in the email. He did thank production workers for bearing with the harsh conditions and said those would be alleviated soon.

Setting aside the fact that no one should be okay with the delivery of a vehicle that is less than perfect, several of the issues that were implicated concerning the Model Y were cosmetic. However, the issues about the unattached backseat were concerning.

The sentiment is Tesla has been trying to keep its second-quarter targets even as it is likely to take a short-term hit from the coronavirus pandemic.

It is rather hard to predict the performance of Tesla in the coming quarters, though, considering the automotive industry has suffered the same shocks as other sectors in the economy.
