“Squid Game” will be back for another season, but many were sad for the second lead Kang Sae-byeok when she did not make it in the Season 1 finale. Due to the sudden popularity of Hoyeon Jung (the actress who portrayed the character), series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that she might be back for the sophomore run of the series.

At Saturday’s PGA Awards ceremony, Deadline caught up with the 50-year-old South Korean director and talked about his ideas for the highly anticipated sequel to the worldwide hit Netflix show.

When asked if the Season 1 characters are coming back to the killer survival drama, Hwang said it was unlikely because most of them died in the freshman run of the show.

“…[M]ost of them are dead. I’ll try something to bring them back to Season 2,” he said.

Hwang then pointed at Jung, who stood beside him on the red carpet, and playfully teased that the 27-year-old model-turned-actress might show up in Season 2, but as a different character.

“Let’s say maybe she has a twin sister, you’ll see,” he said.

Jung, who already joined in on the interview, laughed and expressed that she’s up for it, but she might have to make some changes to her appearance.

“I could change my hair color. Let’s do a little like plastic surgery,” she joked.

As for the iconic kids’ games featured in the first season, Hwang said fans should expect more of them in the next installment. However, he admitted that he hasn’t started writing the material for the sequel yet.

“There will be more great games, that’s all I can say. I’m just still brainstorming and collecting the ideas for Season 2. I haven’t even started with the writing yet.”

The news came a few days after Jung’s involvement in the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller titled “Disclaimer” was announced.

She will star on the show as an ambitious and hardworking character named Kim, who decides to work for Cate Blanchett’s Catherine Ravenscroft, a successful journalist, in hopes of getting a big break.

Aside from Jung and Blanchett, the series will also feature Kevin Kline, Sasha Baron Cohen and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

The casting announcement happened weeks after Jung and her “Squid Game” co-star Lee Jung-jae won the Best Actress and Best Actor in a Drama Series trophies, respectively, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
