Veteran game developers Steve Copeland and Jeff Spoonhower are in the process of securing enough funding for their new game under their new independent studio Resonator. While this may be the debut game of their Los Angeles-based firm, both developers already made names for themselves by helping realize big franchises like “Star Wars,” “Uncharted” and “Uncharted.” Their other past game credits include “BioShock,” “Borderlands,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Command & Conquer” and “Saints Row.”

Just recently, the seasoned developers launched a Kickstarter for their new open-world action game, entitled “Anew: The Distant Light.” The game is described as something fans of single-player adventures would like. It is designed with battles, puzzles and many more interesting elements presented in an exotic alien landscape. The game is currently in pre-alpha and it needs $30,000 to be greenlit. Thus far, 221 backers have pledged $13,291. The project will close on March 20, so interested players who want to back this up still have 28 days to do so.

“You are a child with limited resources, waking up on a distant alien moon, twenty light years from Earth,” the description for the game’s premise reads. “You must carry out a mission of critical importance. Make your way through an exotic and dangerous alien world. Seek out game-changing equipment, upgrades, and vehicles to expand your options for combat and exploration.”

When it comes to the art and animation of “Anew: The Distant Light,” Copeland and Spoonhower ensured that this new game will have something unique to show to players. “We agreed on in pre-production that [the game] must have an original, and intensely personal visual design,” Copeland said. “Our game features a distinct drawing and animation style created by a single artist. Jeff’s aesthetic can be felt throughout every strain of the game, forming a visually cohesive world.”

For gamers who want to support this game, the lowest pledge is $1, which does not come with anything other than a “virtual hug” and the developers’ “heartfelt gratitude.” For the lowest pledge that guarantees one with a digital copy, the required amount is $14. Meanwhile, the biggest pledge one can offer is “$2,500 or more,” and this VIP pledge comes with numerous rewards, like exclusive posters, a game character, interstellar transmission and many more. This also secures one an invitation to the launch party of Resonator’s debut game.

“Anew: The Distant Light” is tentatively scheduled for release in July 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
