Rey's Parents
Will Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) mother be introduced in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” when Jyn Erso debuts? Lucasfilm

One of the top moments in the “Star Wars” franchise was when Darth Vader revealed to Luke Skywalker that he was his father. Fans are hoping for another moment like this when Rey discovers who her parents are in the new trilogy, and it now looks like there could be a hint as to who her mother is. The franchise could be using it’s first spinoff film to disclose Rey’s mother when it introduces Jyn Erso in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

TMZ reports Lucasfilm filed documents to own the merchandising rights to the character of Jyn Erso (Felcity Jones). This includes the trademark rights to toys, clothes, books and school supplies. “Star Wars” fans see this filing as a clue that Jyn Erso could end up being the mother of Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the new trilogy.

When the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” trailer dropped, fans took note of how similar Jyn Erso and Rey seemed to be. Jyn Erso looked fearless in the trailer, while she was described as “reckless, aggressive and undisciplined.” The new heroine will play a big part in the film, as she’ll be helping the Rebellion steal the plans to the Death Star.

Despite the rumors swirling, Ridley told MTV on April 10 that Jyn Erso is likely not the mother of Rey. Ridley added that she already knows who the parents of Rey are, and she doesn’t believe it’s that important.

“I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom,” Ridley dished.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams told Entertainment Weekly last week that the idea of Rey’s parents is something Rey thinks about in the movie. He also said that her parents weren’t in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but later clarified his statement teasing the idea that the audience may have met her parents already.

“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world,” Abrams said.

Since the release of Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” fans have developed theories and debated who Rey’s parents could be. Some believe Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is her father, while others think it could be Obi-Wan Kenobi. Jyn Erso has been the latest rumor about who her mother is, but others have suggested that it’s possibly Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). This would make Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) brother and sister.
