Stomach Virus Spreads To 20 Percent Of Students, School Closes
So many students -- more than 20 percent -- were out sick this week with a rapidly spreading virus that one Massachusetts school is closing entirely on Friday.
WBZ-TV first reported The Rising Tide Charter Public School in Plymouth, Massachusetts, saw more than 20 percent of its student body out with a stomach virus Thursday. School officials expressed particular concern over the stomach virus spreading among students, saying that typically the same illness only keeps kids out for no more than one day.
Rising Tide school officials said they will "clear the germs" from the school as it will be closed Friday.
Justin Dougherty of WHDH-TV detailed that “more than 130 kids” from grades 5 through 12 were not in school Thursday or went home sick at some point in the day. Administrators from both the middle and high schools at 57B Armstrong Road in Plymouth closed the schools friday after being advised by officials from the state's Department of Health.
