  • A teaser from the “Mama June: Road to Redemption” Season 6 finale showed Sugar Bear and Josh talking about Alana
  • Josh assured Sugar Bear that signing the custody papers is in Alana’s best interests
  • Sugar Bear broke down in tears while pondering signing the documents

Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson seemed hesitant to sign his daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson’s custody papers in a sneak peek at the “Mama June: Road to Redemption” Season 6 finale.

On Friday, an exclusive snippet from the final episode of the reality show was shared online by Entertainment Tonight. The clip featured the meaningful conversation Sugar Bear, 50, had with 26-year-old Josh Efird, the husband of Alana’s sister and legal guardian Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, 22.

The video started with Sugar Bear asking Josh about Honey Boo Boo’s performance in school while enjoying a few slices of pizza. After Josh reassured him that Alana was doing well, Sugar Bear mustered the courage to ask if his daughter could “eventually get back to … come see me.”

Josh proceeded to bring up his and Pumpkin’s plan to file for sole custody over Alana.

“If the only thing that you’ve been interested in is the best interest for (sic) Alana, then we have to sign some papers,” Josh said before pulling out some documents and presenting them to Sugar Bear.

“This isn’t me coming at you with a dagger or anything like that,” Josh told Sugar Bear while the latter took his time reading the papers. “I just want to be able to take care of Alana like I have been taking care of Alana, and there are certain legalities keeping me from taking care of Alana.”

When the clip jumped to Josh’s confessional, the father of four admitted that he could never imagine signing his kids’ rights away to another person. However, he added that in Alana’s case, Sugar Bear knows that she’s safe with him and Pumpkin, and the teen also prefers living with them instead of being with her separated parents.

The sneak peek ended with Sugar Bear wiping away tears while telling Josh that Alana’s “the only thing I got.”

Though it’s not clear when exactly their conversation happened, it is understood that the entire season was shot several months ago. It’s likely that Sugar Bear felt helpless in the snippet because of his split from Jennifer Lamb.

In December 2021, Jennifer broke the news of her divorce from Sugar Bear in a Facebook post. “Well, Mike and I went through a lot in our life, and here finally, we are saying goodbye to our marriage,” she wrote before staying away from social media.
