Mehcad Brooks would like to see Tyler Hoechlin reprise his role as Superman on CW’s “Supergirl.”

“Tyler’s amazing, we love him, we miss him,” Brooks told Digital Spy when asked if Hoechlin will return as Man of Steel in Season 3. “We would love to have him back. Hopefully he comes back. I don’t think there’s any plans right now, but there’s always room for Tyler.”

“I want to know how Superman feels about James being The Guardian,” Brooks said of what he’d like to explore if Hoechlin comes back to the show. “If your best friend becomes a superhero all of a sudden ... you call him!”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last May, Hoechlin also said that he’d like to know more about the friendship between Superman and James if he returns to the show next season. “There’s still a lot to explore with [Superman] and James,” the actor said. “Obviously they have the greatest history of anybody on the show, so... now that he’s doing his thing; it would be interesting to see how Clark and [his alter ego] Superman feel about what James has been up to [as Guardian].”

Aside from Superman’s relationship with James, Hoechlin added that he would also love to find out more about his character’s relationship with Kara (Melissa Benoist) and the rest of her family. “I think it could be fun to see exactly how much he’s kept up with them over the years,” the “Teen Wolf” alum said, before adding that the Superman/Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) thing is also a “fun story arc.”

Whether or not Hoechlin gets to reprise his role as Superman in Season 3 of “Supergirl,” the actor said that playing Supes in Season 2 had taught him a lot. “For myself, just as an actor, I learned not to fear any criticisms or critique of what you’re going to do,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously this is the most iconic role I’ve ever played as an actor, and it would’ve been really easy to feel pressure or feel like I needed to do it a certain way to make people happy. … It was a nice experience as an actor to realize that you can make choices sometimes without having to think too much about what other people are going to think about it, if they’re going to criticize it, just have faith in your vision and go for it.”
