Although Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of Superman in the first two episodes of “Supergirl” Season 2 was well-received by viewers, fans of CW’s DC TV universe shouldn’t expect a Man of Steel spinoff anytime soon.

The CW president Mark Pedowitz was amazed by Hoechlin’s performance of Superman on “Supergirl,” but he told Entertainment Weekly following his panel at the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) press tour on Sunday, Jan. 8 that the network has no ongoing plans for a Superman spinoff.

“Tyler did a great job [in playing Superman, but] there’s no plan to do a series,” Pedowitz said. “There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl’]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him.”

“Supergirl” executive producer Greg Berlanti was also asked at TCA about the possibility of giving Superman his own TV series, and he appeared a bit optimistic for a potential spinoff in the future.

“We were just really lucky,” IGN quoted Berlanti as saying following a panel for his new CW teen drama “Riverdale.” “We asked to have him come on for the first couple episodes [of ‘Supergirl’] and they [DC Comics and Warner Bros.] were great about it. We’d love to have Tyler back, he’s amazing, he was great in the role. In success, I think all those things are possible. I’m always the guy who says ‘yes’ if there seems to be an appetite for it and the people involved are really nice.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last October, Hoechlin acknowledged the possibility of him getting his own Superman TV series in the future, but the 29-year-old actor was quick to point out that he isn’t the one who decides on such things.

“You never know,” the “Teen Wolf” alum said at the time. “[But] those are decisions of people in a much different place than I. It’s been a few years since Superman’s really been sticking around on TV for a long time, and who knows what they’ll end up doing and what they’ll want to do. ... I’m just very excited for what the situation is at the moment.”

“Supergirl” Season 2 returns to CW from its midseason hiatus with an all-new episode on Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
