Apple has officially announced the iPad Pro, the largest ever tablet from the company that supports accessories like Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil (a stylus). Its major competitor, the Surface Pro 4 is also pegged to release in the next month with improved specs, compared to the well-acclaimed Surface Pro 3 from 2014.

Even though the sales of tablets are dwindling, the laptop-tablet hybrid Surface Pro 3 has generated good revenue for Microsoft. The newly launched iPad Pro is large-sized tablet that can also function as a laptop by hooking up a keyboard. Here is the comparison of the iPad Pro with purported specs and features of the Surface Pro 4:

Design And Display

The Apple iPad Pro is equipped with 12.9-inch display that offers a display resolution of 2,048 x 2,732 pixels with a pixel density of 265 ppi. It measures 305.7 x 220.9 mm and its thickness is of 6.9 mm.

According to The Verge, the dimensions of the unreleased Surface Pro 4 will be almost same as that of the Surface Pro 3. It further stated that the Surface Pro 3 accessories like the docking station will also be supported by the successor model.

A report from Digitimes has stated that the Surface Pro 4 will be available in two display sizes, one measuring 12 inches and other one measuring 14 inches. Both are expected to deliver a resolution of 2,160 x 1,400 pixels.

Chipset And Storage

The Apple iPad Pro is powered by Apple A9X chipset and it is supported by 4 GB of RAM, G for Games reported. As far as the Surface Pro 4, it is expected to be available in Core i3, Core i5 and Core i5 variants of the newly announced Skylake chip. The Surface Pro 4 is also likely to be available in several RAM variants ranging from 4 GB to 16 GB.

The iPad Pro is available in storage editions like 32 GB and 128 GB. According to Tech Times, unlike the Surface Pro 3 that comes with 64 GB base model, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will be released with 128 GB storage as base model. It will also be available in other storage versions such as 256 GB and 512 GB, the report added.

Pricing And Availability

The 32 GB and 128 GB versions of the iPad Pro are Wi-Fi models that are priced at $799 and $949, respectively. The 128 GB storage is Wi-Fi + cellular model, which is priced at $1,079. To purchase accessories like the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil, buyers will have to shell out $169 and $99, respectively. The iPad Pro will be available for purchase in November.

The starting model of the 12-inch Surface Pro 4 is expected to carry a price tag of $800. The base model of the 14-inch is likely to cost around $100-$150 more. Usually, the Surface Pro buyers do not require spending extra money for purchasing its intuitive stylus. The Surface Pro 3 accessories like Type Cover keyboard and docking station cost 129.9 and $199.9, respectively. The Surface Pro 4 is rumored to be announced on Oct. 19.
