The Trump Administration Launched An AI-Powered America.gov. These Are The Models It’s Using.

The Trump administration has launched a new artificial intelligence-powered government website designed to give Americans a single place to navigate federal services. It is using technology from Google's Gemini and Elon Musk's Grok to power it.

America.gov went live Tuesday morning as part of the administration's broader effort to modernize the federal government's sprawling digital infrastructure. U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia confirmed that Gemini and Grok power the new platform during an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk Box" shortly before the launch.

"We have great partners behind the scenes," Gebbia said. The centerpiece of America.gov is an AI chatbot that allows users to ask questions about government programs and services in conversational language rather than searching through individual agency websites.

Gebbia said roughly 40 million people interact with a government website every day, often trying to complete tasks or find information across a fragmented network of federal sites. America.gov is designed to simplify that process by searching information across roughly 29,000 government websites and returning answers based on official federal sources, according to Gebbia.

"You come to America.gov and you ask for what you need, and in a chat interface, we go off on the back end and scan across all those tens of thousands of websites," Gebbia said. The system then produces a response tailored to the user's request using government information rather than relying on third-party websites.

Google publicly confirmed its involvement in the project Tuesday, describing itself as a technology partner and saying Gemini would help more than 100 million people access public resources more quickly and easily.

The partnership gives Google another major government use case for Gemini as the company expands the AI platform across consumer, enterprise and public-sector applications. Google has also been developing government-focused AI and cybersecurity initiatives, including programs that provide agencies access to advanced Gemini models.

Grok developer xAI did not immediately comment on its involvement, according to CNBC. Gebbia also has a connection to Musk's business empire as he serves on Tesla's board of directors, while Tesla has integrated Grok into its vehicles.

The administration is emphasizing privacy as part of the rollout. Trump said America.gov was designed with privacy and security in mind, and that personal information would not be collected or stored and conversations would disappear after users leave the platform.

The website was unveiled during a day-long event at Washington's Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, administration officials and technology industry leaders.
