KEY POINTS

  • Vholran is a skilled swordsman with an affinity for casting elemental attacks
  • The boss can be easily beaten by using Counter Edge when he casts astral artes
  • Fighting Vholran with only one character is completely doable

The fourth and final Renan lord boss fight in “Tales Of Arise” can be a little intimidating, considering how Lord Vholran single-handedly wiped out the party in a previous encounter. He is still very much capable of doing so, but with a little bit of skill and strategy, players will be able to take him out first.

As scary as he might seem, Vholran can actually be the easiest to fight among all the Renan lords. Here’s a short guide on how to beat him.

Lord Vholran Strategy

Vholran’s flashy moves are also his greatest weakness. They are heavily telegraphed and players can abuse them to proc Counter Edge at will. The trick to beating Vholran is to dodge *toward* his attacks instead of away from them.

Slow-moving or persistent attacks like Vholran’s lightning bolts, ring of ice lances and wave of darkness can be used to immediately activate Counter Edge, which will teleport the active character immediately in front of Vholran to deliver a counterattack. This can potentially stagger him, letting players deal damage safely.

Due to his agile fighting style, Vholran’s sword attacks can be a little harder to dodge perfectly, so try to get out of their way if possible.

Since Vholran is a human-sized target who tends to move around a lot, it may be better for players to tell their party members to do nothing or prioritize healing instead. This will give players a clearer picture of Vholran without having to worry about any visual clutter. Alternatively, use Kisara, Law and Dohalim for a similar effect.

In the second phase of the fight, Vholran will attack more aggressively. He will gain access to more elemental attacks, including Finis Aeternam, which is a powerful AoE nuke that can down the entire party over its duration.

Recommended Items and Party Members

Alphen, Dohalim and Law are great for this fight because of how fast Vholran moves. All three of them can keep up with Vholran, and they have plenty of damage options that don’t rely on enemies staying in one spot for extended periods of time.

Accessories with Elemental Resistance are also great in this fight since Vholran’s astral artes can hit for quite a lot of damage. Alternatively, players who are confident in their ability to perform Counter Edge can opt for increased counterattack damage on their accessories for maximum damage potential.
