KEY POINTS

  • Rinwell is a ranged caster with access to multiple elemental attacks
  • She can charge and store empowered spells for big combos
  • Rinwell also has access to buffs to help empower her party

The young mage Rinwell offers a radically different playstyle when compared to the rest of the party in “Tales Of Arise,” preferring solely to attack enemies with a multitude of elemental magic spells from afar than to get up close and personal.

However, this doesn’t mean that Rinwell is stuck as a static backline spellcaster. She has a few tricks up her sleeve that makes her combo potential just as high as everyone else's without making her any less fun to play with. This does come at the cost of a slightly higher skill requirement, which may be confusing to first-time players.

Here’s a short overview of Rinwell’s role, playstyle and abilities in “Tales Of Arise.”

Rinwell’s Playstyle

As a mage, Rinwell is best used as a ranged spellcaster. She has access to a wide variety of offensive spells and buffs that contribute greatly to the team’s overall DPS and survivability. Rinwell also has the ability to charge her own spells into more powerful versions and combine them with other abilities to create entirely new ones.

Due to the lengthy nature of spellcasting in “Tales Of Arise,” players will have to play somewhat slower with Rinwell. This, coupled with her ability to charge and combine spells, will require players to have a little bit more foresight than the other characters. Rinwell’s plethora of spell combos will also need a fair bit of memorization from the player’s part.

Rinwell can handle her own in close quarters and some of her spells are designed for dealing damage from close ranges. Ideally, however, she should always be away from the front so she has time to cast her more powerful abilities.

Rinwell’s Artes And Mechanics

Holding an ability button while playing as Rinwell causes her to charge and eventually store it. This stored ability can be fired off later, or combined with another charged ability.

Players have more freedom in choosing which artes they want to use as Rinwell, but certain attacks can only be activated after combining two specific spells, namely:

  • Maelstrom – Cross Blade (charged Air Thrust) + Spread
  • Shooting Star – Freeze Lancer (charged Spread) + Holy Lance
  • Meteor Storm – Burning Strike + Divine Sabre

Note that Rinwell’s Burning Strike is unlocked via a late-game sub-quest only.
