KEY POINTS

  • Microsoft announced a few days ago that the Xbox Series X would arrive in November
  • Microsoft has not yet confirmed that there is an Xbox Series S
  • A new listing made by a U.S. retailer sparked speculations about the existence of Xbox Series S

A leaked online listing by US retailer Target could be the much-talked-about Xbox Series S, according to a new report. Since last year, the industry has been talking about the Xbox Series S or Lockhart. Believed to be the more affordable counterpart of the Xbox Series X, the recent listing may have revealed the price of the heavily-rumored next-gen console.

Xbox Series S on Target?

Fresh information about the Xbox Series S came from Twitter user PrivateBiscuit and was picked up by VGC. The tweet shared an image of a smartphone bearing the texts, Xbox One S 1TB V2. The image also shows that the console retails at $299.

The image shared on the micro-blogging site is reportedly the product system of the US retailer Target. It seemingly revealed that the product description points that it is the new version of the now axed Xbox One S. According to VGC, it could be just the new version of the Xbox One S that might launch a next-gen Xbox Wireless Controller. However, TomsGuide speculated that the listing could be a placeholder for the lower-spec version of the Xbox Series X, otherwise known as Lockhart or Xbox Series S.

It can be recalled that in July, the Redmond-based tech and gaming giant Microsoft announced that it would stop the production of Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition gaming consoles. Rumors have it that it could be the company’s way of clearing the shelves in preparation for the arrival of the second next-gen SKU, Xbox Series S.

Other Xbox Series S Details

Last week, a set of leaked Xbox Series X controller surfaced online, which further triggered speculations that Microsoft has another next-gen console arriving soon. The packaging of the alleged Xbox Series X controller mentioned that it is compatible with PC, Mobile, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The leaked images also highlighted the possibility of another color option for the upcoming gaming console from Microsoft.

It is worth noting that earlier rumors about the possible price of the Xbox Series S aligned with the Target listing. Since Microsoft has not yet issued any statement to the latest leaked image, it is wiser to take this information with a good measure of salt.
