After receiving numerous accolades in 2019, Taylor Swift is starting the new year with a bang by adding one more feather in her cap. The musician is going to receive the Vanguard Award at the 2020 GLAAD media awards.

According to the organization, the 30-year-old songstress will be honored with the organization’s highest honor for echoing her voice for the LGBTQ community throughout her career. The “Bad Blood” hitmaker will get the accolade at the organization’s annual media awards on April 16.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis praised Swift for her stand against the legislators who still don’t believe that this community deserves equal rights, too. She also stated that the “Shake It Off” hitmaker has used her celebrity status to influence a lot of her fans to support the LGBTQ community and is still doing amazing work in this field.

“In a time of political and cultural division, Taylor creates music that unites and calls on her massive fan following to speak up and call for change,” Ellis said.

In 2019, the singer used the music video of her track “You Need To Calm Down” to create awareness for LGBTQ rights by casting some prominent stars from the community which included the likes of Ellen DeGeneres and the cast of “Queer Eye.”

Moreover, the ten-time Grammy award-winning artist also wrote to the senator of Tennessee and asked him to accept and support the Equality Act, which would protect the rights of LGBTQ in almost all fields.

Apart from Swift, author and activist Janet Mock will also be awarded with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award.

This year can be a big one for Swift since a new documentary on her life will be streaming live on Netflix. The documentary, which is directed by Lana Wilson, will be available on the streaming service after having its premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival this January.

According to a press release obtained by E! News, the documentary will give a “raw and emotional look” at one of the most iconic artists of this generation. The statement further added that people will be able to see her transformation from a “songwriter” to a woman who harnesses the full power of her “voice.”
