Singer Taylor Swift has reached a new milestone. Along with her hit "Blank Space" being the fastest music video on Vevo to reach 1 billion views, the pop star now has 60 million followers on Twitter.

The social network's Twitter Music account (@TwitterMusic), which focuses on retweeting messages from entertainers and sharing celebrity-related news, announced her personal record in a tweet Wednesday morning. The message also paid tribute to Swift's first message sent on the network, which gave a shoutout to her cat and has since received 9,412 retweets.

Swift joined the microblogging social network in December 2008. The singer and her communications team repeatedly use Twitter, along with Swift's other social network accounts, to engage directly with fans. For example, Swift recently responded to a fan's request for input on his prom outfit via the site Tumblr, Ryan Seacrest reports.

While 60 million is a new landmark for Swift, the celebrity still falls short in being the entertainer with the most followers on Twitter. In fact, singer Katy Perry (@katyperry), who reportedly is in a feud with Taylor Swift and is the subject of Swift's single "Bad Blood," currently holds the record with 72.1 million followers as of Wednesday. Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) has 65.1 million followers.

Outside of the entertainment world, U.S. President Barack Obama (@BarackObama) has garnered 61.5 million followers.
