A teacher in India allegedly forced a 15-year-old female student to take off her clothes after suspecting her of cheating during her exams. While the incident took place in September, it was only reported Wednesday after the victim's mother spoke out about the ordeal to local media.

According to The News Minute, the teenager's mother claimed that her daughter was appearing for Grade 10 examination at the school, which is located in Hyderabad, a city in southeastern Indian state of Telangana. The girl reportedly excused herself to go to the washroom a couple of times. This made the teacher suspicious who then accused her of cheating.

The educator, who has not been identified, took the girl to the washroom to check if she had hidden a phone for cheating. A sanitation worker at the school also accompanied the two. Inside the washroom, the teacher asked the teenager to strip naked.

When the girl returned home and shared her horrific ordeal, the mother rushed to the police station and filed a complaint. Authorities registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 509 (action intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 504 (intentional insult) 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

Cops also filed charges under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act as the teenager belonged to a minority group that has been a repeated target of numerous hate crimes in the country.

While a case has been registered and the identity of the accused is known, no arrests have been made so far, Scroll.in reported. Cops said they are investigating the case and still collecting evidence in the matter.

The girl’s mother has also filed a complaint with the school, the Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights and the Child Welfare Committee. The school authorities, however, have refuted the allegations.

In the police complaint, the victim's mother stated that the incident humiliated the teen. She also claimed that in several other previous incidents, the same teacher had allegedly scolded her daughter in a harsher manner, while other students were only given warnings.

“Knowing the pattern of how she [the teacher] is treating my daughter and the several incidents that took place clearly indicate that this prejudice is illogical and deliberate and it is fair to assume this is due to the colour of skin of my daughter and her caste background,” the minor’s mother wrote in her complaint to the Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, The News Minute reported.
