Whoever said the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted hiring in the U.S. didn’t let Amazon know. After going on something of a hiring spree recently, the tech giant announced on Wednesday that it would be filling over 33,000 new positions, including corporate, tech, and hourly operations roles.

The announcement came as the company confirmed that its virtual Amazon Career Day will take place next Wednesday, Sept. 16. Roughly 1,000 Amazon recruiters will be deployed during the event, with the goal of providing around 20,000 career counseling sessions over the course of the day.

“With many people left unemployed by the economic impact of COVID-19 and searching for new jobs, Career Day is designed to support all job seekers, regardless of their level of experience, professional field, or background – or whether they are looking for a job at Amazon or another company,” Amazon explained in a blog post. “On top of the 20,000 one-on-one coaching sessions, Career Day also includes three hours of mainstage programming that will feature fireside chats, panel discussions, and interviews with leading career-advice experts and Amazon executives.”

Among the jobs on offer will be “engineering, data science, marketing, human resources, and finance roles” in various departments at the tech giant, including Amazon Web Services, Alexa, Operations Tech, and Prime Video.

Last year, according to Amazon, 17,000 individuals took part in its Career Day and over 200,000 applied for positions within the company.

“COVID-19 continues to affect millions of people across the country, and people are eager for the opportunity to get back to work,” Beth Galetti, senior vice president of human resources for Amazon, said. “We’ve created more jobs in the U.S. over the past decade than any other company – and we are continuing to hire people from all backgrounds and at all skill levels.”
